Haider – Cinematic Brilliance

Easily one of the best movies I’ve seen in recent times. Haider has everything from the right music to the right cast to the perfect director.

‘Haider’ starring Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Shraddha Kapoor is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and released on 2nd October, 2014.

Everyone knows that it’s an adaptation of Hamlet, but what Vishal Bharadwaj has done with it is commendable. He’s added texture, color, and a desi touch that makes it a Bollywood gem that very few movies can compare with. Srinagar, in all its beauty mesmerizes you and terrifies you at the same time. Add to the mix  ‘Aao Na’ and you have a shiver running through your spine. Watching a few old men dig graves and lie in them was unnerving to say the least, but brilliant nonetheless.

The leading man, Shahid Kapoor has given his career best performance in Haider. A poet who has just returned home to find his home in ruins, his mother a ‘half widow’ and his father missing, Haider slowly learns the truth about what really happened with his father.

What hits the sweet spot for most movie goers is when you don’t see the actor on screen, but you see the character, which is something Haider delivered beautifully. From Shahid Kapoor playing the perfect Haider to Shraddha Kapoor being the perfect Aarshia to Tabu playing the beautiful Gazala. Every character has it’s own complexity and Vishal Bharadwaj has captured it amazingly.

I’m not giving out any spoilers, but all I can say is WOW. This is definitely a movie that lingers way after you’ve watched it.
